Wellness Through Words - Where Art Meets Mental Health

Speakers:  Heather Bodie and Jordan Holmes, aka Dxtr Spits

Heather Bodie and Dxtr Spits have partnered to creatively open up a space to talk about mental health. This session examines our relationship with our individual mental health journeys while providing tools to connect through intentional conversation. With a combination of spoken word, mindfulness, and an easy-to-implement ‘how to’ formula, attendees will leave with a new approach to creatively navigate difficult conversations and develop deeper, more meaningful connections inside and outside of work.

About Heather Bodie:

Heather Bodie is a keynote speaker, consultant, and mental health advocate working to teach her audiences how to have complicated but oh-so-necessary conversations about mental health at work. Her method and proprietary language tools help unveil decades of stigma and poke at our own personal biases in an approachable, casual, and even fun way. You'll leave with an understanding of how to practice and begin implementing ways and means for a better, more aware, and inclusive daily work experience. You don't have to be an expert to have meaningful and productive conversations about mental health. It's time for everyone to learn how to do it — even at work.

About Jordan Holmes, aka Dxtr Spits:

Jordan Holmes, aka Dxtr Spits, is a jack of all trades in the world of science, art, and entrepreneurship. While getting his Materials Science Engineering degree at Virginia Tech, he met American poet and writer Dr. Nikki Giovanni, who would become his mentor. After graduation, he began the pursuit of his performance career as Dxtr Spits, a witty, impactful, and energized lyricist. His motto is,  "Live life like an experiment, you cannot control what happens to you, but you can control the product you become." He explores experimental themes in his multi-sensory performances. His acapella spoken word and keynotes have brought crowds to tears while teaching inspirational deep life lessons. He most recently launched a movement called How Men Cry, which is changing the narrative around men's relationship to vulnerability and mental health, with the intention of making compassion contagious.
